Member Spotlight: Philtronics

Today we’re shining the spotlight on Technology Connected Members Philtronics Limited

Tell us a little bit about the background of your organisation?

Philtronics is a Contract Electronic Manufacturer (CEM) offering outsource Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) to customers demanding fast turnaround with a high level of product reliability. Founded 17 years ago and operating from its 20,000 sq ft facilities, the company located near Aberdare is ambitious and growth driven.

What have been your proudest achievements and biggest challenges so far?

Over the past 17 years, Philtronics has been a key supplier of full turn key product into the Global Semiconductor / Wafer Fabrication sector, a fast-paced sector demanding a high level of flexibility and product customisation. Our success comes down to five factors: our staff, communication, quality, flexibility and value for money.

Philtronics was founded on its strength in precision, box build manufacturing. The business has grown and developed its skills base and facilities to become a complete “concept to delivery” contract manufacturing solution.

What do you think the biggest advantages of being a tech company in Wales are?

Being part of the Tech Sector in Wales is exciting as it allows us to be involved with cutting edge and innovative product development and manufacturing.

We can assist from early design concepts, rapid prototyping, design for manufacture and assembly, supply chain optimisation, product standardisation, design approval processes, build, test and logistics.

What would you like to see happen to the industry in Wales and beyond?

It would be great to see SMEs like us grow alongside Tech industry leaders. In such a fast-paced environment, a strong local supply chain will be key to reduce lead times, get product to market faster and win more business. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the risks relating to logistics delays and disruption affecting entire operations. Collaborative work on product development will also ensure each partner can focus on what they do best and generate real gains.

What does your organisation have in store for the future?

Having invested in capital equipment in PCBA at the beginning of the year, our journey evolves further with the introduction of manufacturing in our 175m2 ISO14644 Class 7 clean room starting in July. It will serve our existing customers as we evolve their build to the next level and it will allow us to attract new business.
